Before dating Gil, I had no idea what Flag Day was but now I make it a point to be around for the holiday every year. Its one of my favourite American holidays to celebrate (I can’t say I really know the history behind the day) with Gil and his friends. I’ve enjoyed being around for the last few years and thoroughly appreciate them taking in a Clueless Canadian for the day!
I’m a fan of anything that shows off my legs, to be honest. However, something about this dress drew me in and I’m really happy I gave in. I really felt like a princess when I put it on. I probably spent a good 20 minutes before leaving just dancing around and twirling! Its so absurdly comfortable too. Sure, its not going to be the most practical choice for hot days but at least I won’t have to worry about the wind blowing up my dress. I might try to include more maxis in my wardrobe this summer or rather, just in general. What do you think? What are some of your favourite maxi dresses?
Generally speaking, I order a 3x from Forever21 but I wasn’t too sure how I’d fit into this dress. I’m used to skirts with tons of stretch or free flowing hips. This dress does have lining, so its not as free fitting as I’d hope. I was still able to get away with it though and I have ample room to feel comfortable. My favourite part about this dress? I was able to go bra free! I’m all for the lift and support a bra gives me but there’s something really exciting about going out braless. I’m also very weird and finicky about being able to see my bra strap, especially with a dress as simplistic and pretty as this. I wouldn’t want to distract from any of the aspects that I really fell for about this piece.

I have so much clothing just hanging in my closet. I think some of my most sought after pieces have been laying around for years now and I’m a little embarrassed to admit that. I make so many promises to myself, like to wear more of my clothing and to be more productive with my time but I never come through. This summer I’m really, really trying to challenge myself. If something isn’t worn, its gotta go. If I haven’t even considered wearing something in 6 months, I’m selling it or donating it to Value Village. Its been a great challenge so far and I’ve pulled out some pieces that I wouldn’t normally gravitate towards. This dress and vest have been stashed away for God knows how long. I don’t really know how much I love it together but it was cute enough to go walking around for a little while.
Michelle, Gil and I originally set out to go to the Farmer’s Market but we stumbled on a Sugar Haven and kind of went overboard. I’m not a big sweet tooth myself but I couldn’t resist grabbing some candy for myself. Poor Michelle left her sweets in Boston but Gilbert jumped on the grenade and gobbled it up on her behalf. We finished the day off with (WAY too much) sushi and a trip to Trader Joe’s and spent our evening drinking and watching the Lego movie. What a treat! Having Michelle visit was a great way for me to come out of my shell a little. I felt so rejuvenated while she was visiting and even after she left. Being around good people leaves such a positive impact on me and I’m so happy I had a chance to meet her.

A friend of mine recently came out to visit me here in Boston. We’re both huge Gilmore Girls fans and so I knew I had to give her a tour of Harvard. Any GG fan knows the importance of Harvard to Rory Gilmore. My very first time was short but magical and I couldn’t wait to get back and show Michelle. I felt what Rory felt but maybe a lot less intense. This place makes you feel happy and grounded. Michelle and I (and my handy dandy photog boyfriend, Gil) hung out in the yard just taking photos, basking in the sun and taking it all in for about an hour. What a dream come true!
I seldom really dress up anymore so I knew I needed to take this opportunity to get back into my old habits. Although I made us leave a bit (hmm, maybe a lot) later than we had anticipated, it was well worth it for me. My mood hasn’t been so great lately but actually dedicating myself to putting an outfit together just felt… right. Having the chance to really be myself and really take that nessescary time to cater to my needs felt so good. It felt like being me again. I might be the princess of over emphasized emotions but I was truly happy in that moment.
Have you ever been to Harvard? If not, where have you always dreamed of visiting? I still have so many places that I would love to go but Harvard was a big must for me!
